Indigo's new store will be named Indigo Spirit, not Chapters, even though books will be a "core" product on sale

The owner of the Chapters bookstore chain, Indigo Books & Music Inc., announced August 25 that it will open a 5,000-square-foot store at 810 through 816 Granville Street, near Robson Street, in space that was previously an Aldo Shoes store.

The store will be about one-tenth the size of the 52,000-square-foot Chapters bookstore that the company closed in June  at the corner of Robson and Howe streets, which  is only about one block from Indigo's future store. The plan is to brand the new store Indigo Spirit and to look for a larger format store in the downtown area.

“We at Indigo are thrilled to be back in downtown Vancouver, offering both our new and existing customers the best in books, gifts and paper, in perfect time for holiday gift giving,” said Heather Reisman, who is Indigo’s founder and CEO.

She had mentioined at a public meeting on February 23 that future Indigo store locations would likely not be named Chapters.

The company said in its August 25 release that the new store would have “books at the core” but also expand on its product assortment and have a curated gift and paper section.
