Vancouver retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is moving out of the backcountry and into the urban jungle by expanding its product focus for a broader range of active Canadians.
The outdoor clothing giant announced this morning more than 1,400 new products are being introduced this year, representing the largest inventory introduction MEC has ever undertaken.
This expansion is based on extensive MEC customer research and will see a new emphasis on running, cycling and yoga clothing as well as camping gear.
Customers will also see an increased focus on fashion, fit and colour in the new products that will extend to the backcountry gear for which MEC has built its reputation.
The company's expanded focus is designed to reflect the lifestyle of MEC customers, 71% of whom live in urban centres and are as active close to home as they are elsewhere.
