Vancouver-headquartered Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) has opened a location at the Orchard Plaza Shopping Centre in Kelowna, marking the company’s first official foray into the Okanagan.
MEC said the store will feature an “assortment of outdoor products curated specifically for the for the region.”
Although this is the area’s first MEC store, the company said it has had a presence in the Okanagan for decades, putting on workshops and sponsored events for more than 40 years and putting $560,000 into community projects since 2005.
“MEC has been investing in projects to help strengthen outdoor recreation infrastructure and organizations in the Okanagan for years,” MEC CEO David Labistour said in a press release.
The Kelowna store, a 20,000-square-foot location is the company’s fifth MEC in British Columbia and its 18th in Canada. In addition to selling gear for camping, biking, running, yoga and hiking gear, among other activities, the store will have a shop for bikes and ski repairs
