Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) announced March 21 that it will open a new store in late June in Langley’s Willowbrook Shopping Centre, on the Fraser Highway, near the Langley Bypass.
The 16,000-square-foot store will be the chain’s fourth in B.C. and 17th in Canada.
It is one of the chain’s smaller stores given that the company’s stores in Toronto, Calgary and in Vancouver on West Broadway are all between 40,000 square feet and 45,000 square feet.
The last B.C. store that the chain opened was the 21,000-square-foot store in North Vancouver.
The Vancouver-based company is also building a new 112,000-square-foot headquarters on Vancouver’s False Creek Flats that is expected to be complete by next summer.
The Langley location will employ about 25 staff, including five senior staff. The company is now hiring.
