Logistics and distribution giant Nippon Express Canada announced June 5 that it has leased 150,000 in the East Richmond Distribution Centre and will leave its smaller facility in west Richmond.
“They’re in a 30-year-old Tier 2 or Tier 3 outdated warehouse,” said CBRE Ltd. senior vice-president Gurch Ollek, whose firm brokered the deal. “It’s a good opportunity for them to get into a brand new state-of-the-art distribution centre.”
Nippon will be near other distribution tenants such as Euro Asia Transload Inc., which recently inked a deal to move from south Burnaby to a 250,000 square-foot facility near the East Richmond Distribution Centre, Ollek said.
Other nearby tenants include:
- Containerworld, which stores liquor for the British Columbia Distribution Branch;
- Kuehne + Nagel, a BMW parts distributor; and
- Acklands Grainger, which distributes safety equipment and fasteners, among other goods.
“We’re in discussions with someone for the remaining half of [the East Richmond Distribution Centre],” Ollek said. “I had a tour on Monday morning with a large company out of the U.S.
“We’re hoping to complete within the next two months.”
