Saks Fifth Avenue plans to open Metro Vancouver’s second OFF 5th store at West Vancouver’s Park Royal North in summer 2017.
The move comes on the heels of the upscale department store chain opening its first Metro Vancouver OFF 5th store at the Tsawwassen Mills mall when that mall opened on October 5.
Both OFF 5th stores, which are outlet stores that sell discounted merchandise, will be about 33,000 square feet.
“It’s part of our overall improvement strategy for the north side of Park Royal,” said Rick Amantea, who is vice-president of community partnerships and development at Park Royal.
“This Park Royal North change that we’re talking about is the largest piece of work we’ve done on the north side of Park Royal in the last 25 years. So it’s pretty a significant improvement to the property.”
Amantea told Business in Vancouver that from the existing Hudson’s Bay store, there would be a Banana Republic store to the west. Continuing to the west, there would be the new OFF 5th store, a new government liquor store, a Gap store and then a Loblaws City Market grocery store and a newly renovated London Drugs store.
“London Drugs is already open,” he said. “They’re just finishing off a major renovation to their store. That will be done 100% early in the new year. The Loblaws City Market opened in October. The Steve Nash fitness club and the new B.C. liquor store will open in the spring.”
The Loblaws City Market store, at 45,000 square feet, is the largest grocery store in the area.
Park Royal North is not the only part of the West Vancouver mall that is undergoing some change.
A new Keg Steakhouse + Bar is set to open on Park Royal South early in 2017. The southern part of Park Royal underwent its most significant change in October 2015, when a 100,000-square-foot Simons opened.
