Sears Canada will cut 1,600 more jobs over the next nine months, the company announced today.
The struggling retailer will outsource 1,345 call centre jobs in Montreal, Toronto and Belleville, Ontario through a deal with IBM. The company will also cut 283 warehouse jobs across the country.
The move follows 800 job cuts announced in November, including 79 from the company's Vancouver service centre.
Sears Holdings Corp., Sears Canada's parent company, announced on January 9 that holiday sales had been disappointing. It warned it expects losses of between US$213 million and $315 million for the fourth quarter.
