The Vancouver International Airport Authority confirmed yesterday that the 340,000-square-foot outlet mall that it is developing in partnership with McArthurGlen Group will move closer to the Canada Line's Templeton Station.

Business in Vancouver broke the story last month that the developers were considering moving the location of the mall.

"Results from the feasibility testing at the site near the Canada Line Templeton Station and at the Russ Baker Way site on Sea Island, along with feedback from our communities, resulted in the change in location," YVR spokeswoman Alana Lawrence told BIV.

The new site for the mall will be east of the 2,500-spot parking lot, which is directly north of Templeton Station.

Site clearing for the mall has already started on the previous site just off Russ Baker Way on Sea Island, which is on federal government land that the airport authority leases. But Lawrence said that this is not a problem.

"Work done for site preparation at the Russ Baker Way location will be used for future commercial development, as designated in the airport's 20-year master plan."

For the area south of Templeton Station, YVR executives are considering co-developing a one-million-square-foot business park with the private sector.

YVR executives are expected to announce the winning architectural vision for that business park in the next few months. They are currently considering four shortlisted bids from architects.

YVR will then work with architects to develop a master plan for the park and determine whether to develop it alone or to take on a partner.
