Sony Pictures Imageworks relocating Vancouver office to The Post

Visual effects and animation studio getting new digs at iconic downtown building
349 West Georgia
Visual effects and animation studio Sony Pictures Imageworks will be relocating its Vancouver office to The Post, which already has notable tenant Amazon.com Inc.

Sony Pictures Imageworks is relocating its Vancouver headquarters from CF Pacific Centre to The Post, a coveted downtown location known for its revitalized mid-century architecture and a long-term tenancy by Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN).

While a corporate spokesperson for Sony Pictures Imageworks declined to go on the record, a source close to the studio told BIV they are moving their headquarters to The Post to build out a more modern workspace.

Located on West Georgia Street across from Vancouver’s central public library, The Post occupies a full city block and consists of two office towers atop a historical Canada Post processing facility.

The mid-century architecture was revitalized and given a contemporary extension while retaining key heritage elements, such as the exterior’s original cast aluminum federal emblems and blue and red terracotta tiles.

The building, owned by QuadReal Property Group, has Amazon as its primary tenant. At least 2,000 of Amazon’s roughly 4,500 staff in Vancouver now work in The Post, with Amazon being the sole corporate tenant of the towers above, which have a combined 1.1 million square feet of office space.

“We can confirm Sony will move into the fourth-floor Atrium space, but we are unable to comment any further,” QuadReal spokeswoman Hannah Wanlin said.

The fourth-floor Atrium space, understood to be within The Post's heritage podium, is separate from the eighth-floor Amazon Atrium, which was unveiled in September 2024 and connects the two towers leased by the tech giant. The lengths of Sony's and Amazon’s respective leases are not public.

Sony Pictures Imageworks is an Academy Award-winning visual effects and animation studio with offices in Vancouver, Montreal and Culver City, Calif. It is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and Japanese conglomerate Sony Group Corp. (NYSE: SONY).

Sony Pictures Imageworks will be vacating its current offices in CF Pacific Centre above the old Nordstrom department store. Its office there is on the fifth floor of 725 Granville St.

“We can confirm that at the expiry of Sony's lease, they will be vacating their premises (one floor), and we are actively marketing this floor for lease, focusing on creative industries,” Anna Ng, a spokeswoman for CF Pacific Centre owner The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited, said in a statement.

“The uniquely large floor plate and high ceilings provide unparalleled efficiencies and natural light rarely available in Vancouver.”

It remains unclear when exactly the studio’s relocation will occur, though a separate report in the Daily Hive suggested that this will be before June 2025 when the Sony space becomes available for a new occupier.
