Vancouver-based CounterPath Corp. (TSX-V:CCV) has announced that it has entered a software licence agreement with Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI-b) to power the telecom’s new Rogers One Number service.

Rogers is heading off competition such as Skype and Google Inc. (Nasdaq:GOOG) by delivering a first-of-its-kind wireless service to more than nine million subscribers – and it has turned to CounterPath to provide the software.

The service allows business and domestic customers to use voice calls, video and texting over multiple devices, including cellphones and computers, using only their wireless phone number. Contact lists, texts and emails are synced between computers and cellphones, and users can switch devices in the middle of voice or video calls. The service also provides free calls from customers’ computers to Canadian numbers from anywhere in the world.

CounterPath’s software licence agreement with Rogers means that the more consumers sign up for Rogers One Number, the more revenue will flow to CounterPath.

CounterPath, which is chaired by billionaire technology guru Terry Matthews, has more than 500 customers worldwide, including Cisco Systems, AT&T and Verizon.

CounterPath makes a range of desktop computer, mobile communication and VOIP software products.
