Vancouver-based online suit-seller Indochino plans to open a permanent brick-and-mortar showroom in New York City on September 10, the company announced September 5.

The news comes a month after the company opened its first brick-and-mortar showroom outside Vancouver – in Toronto .

The company’s first brick-and-mortar showroom opened in Vancouver in June.

Indochino CEO Kyle Vucko told Business in Vancouver earlier this summer that his plan is to open showrooms in major cities across North America. He said he will then reflect on whether the next course of action should be to add more North American showrooms in progressively smaller markets or to open showrooms in major cities in Europe and Australia.

"We're looking at all of the major markets in North America – Calgary, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia," he told BIV on September 5 after returning home from a trip to New York. "We haven't signed any other leases yet."

The company’s New York City location will be in Manhattan’s Soho neighbourhood. It’s a 2,100-square-foot space at 435 Broome St., between Broadway and Crosby Street.

"Fashion week is next week so it's a great time to open," Vucko said, referring to the eight-day extravaganza that started September 4. "We're going to get into suit-wearing season now so it's going to be a busy time for us."

New York is the company's largest market by revenue followed by Toronto, Vucko said. He added that Indochino likely does its best per-capita sales in Vancouver.

Opening brick-and-mortar showrooms is an extension of the company’s so-called travelling tailor pop-up stores, which have been increasing both in number and duration in the past several years.
