If you are worried about losing years of family memories to video tape decay, London Drugs has a new service that will digitize it for you – even Betamax – and store it on DVD and online.
The Richmond-headquartered company is the first retailer in Canada to offer the service.
In partnership with YesVideo, http://www.yesvideo.com London Drugs will digitize a wide range of video tape (VHS, Betamax and miniDV), film (8mm, 16mm and Super 8) and slides.
It is transferred to DVD, and customers will also have access to that footage online through YesVideo’s platform, which allows the digitized media to be viewed on a variety of devices and even shared with family and friends via email, Instagram or Facebook.
Prices range depending on the amount of tape to be digitized. Two hours of videotape transfer costs $36.99.
Video tape quality degrades over time and the tape itself can become brittle and break. Many people also have video tapes or film for which they no longer even have devices, like BetaMax or VHS players.
“Protecting and sharing generations of family memories is extremely important,” said London Drugs merchandise manager Frank Tent. “That’s why we have partnered with the largest and most trusted home movie transfer company to give our customers the ability to bring back their deeply cherished memories in an easily accessible and shareable format.”
