The former director of a U.S. intelligence agency has secured a spot in the boardroom at Vancouver’s UrtheCast (TSX:UR).
Letitia (Tish) Long’s tenure began Monday (February 23) at the B.C. company behind the development of the world’s first Ultra HD camera to stream video from outer space.
She served as the director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) from 2010-14. It was during that period the NGA began using open-source software development to assist first responders during natural disasters.
Long also served previously as deputy director of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency.
"Tish has built an unparalleled reputation and track-record, in addition to being the first woman to lead a major U.S. intelligence agency,” UrtheCast chairman Tye Burt said in a statement.
CEO Scott Larson said the company would benefit from her leadership experience and knowledge.
"We look forward to her strategic contribution while UrtheCast continues to revolutionize geospatial Big Data analytics, making imagery and data commercially viable for a much wider universe of end users," he said in a statement.
In November, UrtheCast announced it was close to finalizing a $65-million contract but CFO Issa Nakhleh said losses at the tech company would likely remain around the $2.5 million mark for the next few quarters.
