The City of Vancouver is working with not-for-profit group HUB to encourage Vancouverites to put away their car keys for Bike to Work Week, which runs from May 27 to June 2.

Bikescore.com recently ranked the city as second best in the country for cycling accessibility. Criteria included number of commuters and availability of bike lanes.

The City of Vancouver has announced Vancouver has a 255-kilometre bike network, including 39 kilometres of painted bike lanes and six kilometres of separated bike lanes (not including the seawall).

HUB, a charitable organization whose goal is to promote cycling awareness, is hosting “celebration stations” with free bike tuneups (along with free coffee and snacks) at the following locations:

  • Monday, May 27: Burrard and Cornwall, 4-6 p.m.;
  • Tuesday, May 28: 10th Ave. and Ontario, 7-9.30 a.m.;
  • Tuesday, May 28: Quebec and Terminal, 4-6 p.m.;
  • Thursday, May 30: Arbutus and 7th Ave., 4-6 p.m.;
  • Friday, May 31: Union and Hawks, 7-9.30 a.m.; and
  • Friday, May 31: Dunsmuir and Richards, 6.30-9 a.m.

The City of Vancouver’s goal is to have at least half of all trips in the area being made on foot, bike or transit by 2020.
