BC Ferries is once again raising rates on passenger and vehicle fares, with changes effective April 1.

Fares will increase an average of 4.1% for all routes.

“Fare increases are required due to the rising cost of operating and capital expenditures,” according to a BC Ferries news release, which also stated that the increases were in accordance with an order from the BC Ferries Commissioner on October 1, 2012.

Some of the price hikes along major routes – which include Tsawassen to Swartz Bay, Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay and Tsawassen to Duke Point – will be:

  • adult passenger: increasing from $14.85 to $15.50; and
  • vehicle: increasing from $49.25 to $51.25.

Fees for reservations made less than seven days in advance are also increasing, with a 5.7% jump from $17.50 to $18.50.
