Ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air launched its first flight today: to Vancouver International Airport from its base in Calgary.
Tickets for the flight sold for $39 each way.
Lynx's website says that its three new Boeing 737 planes are set to fly between Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, St. John's and Halifax.
Non-stop flights out of Vancouver go to Kelowna, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto.
The airline plans to expand its fleet to 46 planes by 2029.
Lynx was originally known as Enerjet, when it was originally founded in 2006. It then rebranded in November.
Competition in the low-cost fare niche includes Flair Airlines, Air Canada's Rouge, Sunwing, Swoop and Canada Jetlines.
These airlines tend to price seats lower than traditional carriers and then tack on extra charges for things such as carrying on more than one bag, or having checked baggage.
