More evidence of Kitimat’s boom is in the air with the formation of a new air service launched by the Haisla First Nation and the Summit Aviation Group.
The new service – Summit Kitimat Aviation Ltd. – will serve the Kitimat area, which is booming, thanks to a nascent liquefied natural gas industry and a multi-billion dollar expansion of the Rio Tinto aluminum smelter.
Summit – a division of the Ledcor Group of Companies – operates a fleet of 28 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft serving the Yukon and Northern B.C. and Northwest Territories.
"Summit's expertise in working with oil and gas clients combined with the Haisla's understanding of the area make for an ideal partnership – one that Ledcor is very proud to join," said Paul McElligott, president of Ledcor Resources and Transportation, Summit's parent company.
"This aviation deal extends an already well-functioning partnership Ledcor has with the Haisla and we look forward to growing together.”
“We are extremely proud of this new partnership in the aviation space, and see a great future with Summit and its senior leadership team in the Kitimat region," said Henry Amos, chairman of the Haisla Economic Development Committee.
