The Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) announced a $250,000 grant August 15 to the Northern Rockies Regional Airport in Fort Nelson to help pay for a new parking plan.

Currently, the airport’s parking lot generates no revenue for the airport. The grant from the NDIT will support new pay-parking facilities in the main lot, rental car parking, secure company parking, leased staff parking and new bus access routes.

“The Northern Rockies Regional Airport has become one of the north’s busiest airports in recent years, thanks to unprecedented economic growth in the area. This grant will support much-needed infrastructure that will help a key asset in the region become more economically sustainable,” said Evan Saugstad, NDIT chair.

“Northern Development is proud to partner with the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality to support this important project.”
