Congestion. Construction. Bad driving.
Those rush-hour woes aren’t letting up for a third of drivers in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island who reported their commute has gotten worse over the last five years, according to a May 22 poll from Insights West.
Most drivers reported traffic (87%) and bad drivers (75%) were the most “annoying” aspects of their commutes. The next biggest annoyance was parking (21%).
It’s not all bad for commuters.
The poll, which was commissioned by Vancity Credit Union, also found 60% of drivers in those regions find their commutes either moderately or very pleasant.
Furthermore, 21% of Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island drivers reported their commuter has gotten better the last five years.
But drivers appeared more than willing to go green if their employer would offer some incentives.
Almost half (47%) of drivers polled said they would likely transit to work more often in an employer offered to cover the cost of a transit pass.
Another 68% said they would likely invest in an energy-efficient vehicle like a hybrid if their employer gave some incentives.
