Air passengers should check the local Metro Vancouver weather forecast and conditions at their destinations before heading to YVR airport on Feb. 3, 2025.

Several flights to and from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) have been cancelled due to winter weather on Monday, Feb. 3.

A snowstorm impacting the Lower Mainland continues to bring snow to the region and YVR has activated its snow response program. Several other airports across Canada and south of the border are also experiencing inclement weather, resulting in significant flight delays and cancellations.

According to YVR's arrivals page, 28 flights were cancelled and 51 were delayed on Monday. According to the airport's departures page, 22 flights were cancelled and 16 were delayed.

Spokesperson Kate Macrae told V.I.A. that YVR's top priorities are safety and security as the cold and snowy conditions persist in the Lower Mainland. The airport has activated its snow response program, including additional staffing and equipment in the terminal and airfield.

"Airfield crews will be clearing snow and ice from runways, taxiways, and aprons, and ensuring aircraft are de-iced as needed," she said.

"While we aim to keep flights moving, inclement weather may reduce airfield capacity, and delays are possible."

Macrae said YVR is working closely with NAV Canada to manage arrivals and departures but "seasonal weather elsewhere can also affect flight schedules."

What should I do if I have flights headed to or from YVR?

Travellers should check their flight status before heading to the airport with their airport or online with YVR.

Air passengers should also check the local Metro Vancouver weather forecast and conditions at their destinations. Major storms across the continent can also impact flight schedules.

YVR also offers a tool that allows passengers to view a step-by-step guide through the airport based on their specific flight information.

Air Canada has extended its advisory for flights to and from YVR impacted by the winter storm. Travellers can take advantage of a one-time waiver to make free changes on flights scheduled to depart or arrive from the airport on Monday. The airline is also offering free changes for several other big airports impacted by inclement weather across North America.

WestJet has also introduced a one-time waiver for travellers to make free changes to flights to and from YVR and cities on Canada's west coast.

Flair Airlines has also extended its advisory for flights to and from YVR and Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Monday due to the snow and cold weather.
