Karen Christiansen is in the business of making ever-lasting memories.
And more often than not, she’s got one chance to capture and distill that lasting impression.
That’s why for more than a half-decade, Christiansen has worked with STEMS by Stong’s to make countless fundraising luncheons, galas and corporate events pop like no other.
And here’s how she does it.
Vibe check
Event planning is about making memories by creating collective experiences. Ambience is key to any event space – does a client want a tranquil, Zen space or a high-energy vibe?
“Florals are a key component of ambience – pops of vibrant colour, monotone palettes or current trends all affect the feel of a space,” Christiansen says. “STEMS floral designers can help make your vision come to life using their experience, knowledge of timeless design or also current trends.”
Plan for the occasion
Late winter and early spring are typically fundraising event seasons, during which Christiansen works on galas, luncheons and conferences for local charities. Golf tournaments will follow in the coming months.
Christiansen is currently working with STEMS to create the centrepieces for the CKNW Kid’s Fund Pink Shirt Day Luncheon, where inevitably a pop of pink is a must.
“STEMS truly cares about investing in their community,” Christiansen says. “Many of my clients are charities that are also giving back to their communities, so STEMS is a perfect fit. I love their dedication to community, their customer service is excellent and their florals are stunning!”
Trust the process
Once it’s go time, Christiansen works collaboratively with the STEMS team to discuss arrangement size, colour palettes and available seasonal florals. Designers at STEMS then create samples using fresh high-quality blooms in line with her budget to bring to life table centrepieces, cocktail table posies, larger arrangements that beautify the stage and bouquets for VIPs.
“Once we have confirmed the order, STEMS delivers to the venue on event day and can assist with set up if required. I also love that they provide take-away bags for centrepieces and bouquets, so no floral is wasted,” Christiansen says.
Whether you’re planning large-scale events as Christiansen does or something more low-key, STEMS by Stong’s newest location in North Vancouver’s Northwoods Village has you covered from A to Z.
This 3,000 square foot space is a mecca for everything under the event-planning sun: fresh custom bouquets, succulents, vase arrangements, tropical plants, beautiful giftware and jewelry, unique charcuterie boards, Fable dishware, journals, bath and body products, cards, kids books jellycats and more.
“Our team orders from the auction multiple times a week, always securing the freshest flowers,” says STEMS by Stong’s Manager Stacy Smith. “We order flowers that are in season or do special orders depending on what our customers are requesting. Large or small arrangements, we can create them all.”
