Glowbal Group owner sues nephew for allegedly trading on the Glowbal name

Glowbal Restaurants Ltd. owner Emad Yacoub is suing his nephew, Peter Girges, principal of Rocks Glass Concepts Ltd.

Glowbal Restaurants Ltd. owner Emad Yacoub is suing his nephew, Peter Girges, principal of Rocks Glass Concepts Ltd., for allegedly trading on the good name of Glowbal and creating the impression that Girges was a significant force in Glowbal’s growth.

The focus of Yacoub’s anger was a “Vancouver to get hospitality shake-up” press release.

Girges spoke with Business in Vancouver within an hour of that press release being disseminated.

Girges said at the time that the press release was hastily drafted.

Yacoub alleges that in the press release Girges makes a number of false statements and misrepresentations, including that Girges:

Yacoub believes these representations are false because the Glowbal Group was founded by Yacoub and his wife Shannon Bosa-Yacoub, and, according to the statement of claim, Yacoub maintains majority ownership and day-to-day control of all restaurant concepts and operations.

Yacoub claims in that document that he built Glowbal Group’s restaurants beginning with the Glowbal Grill & Satay Bar in 2002 and at all times has been the conceptual mind behind the Glowbal Group’s restaurants.

“Girges at no time held a 50% interest or otherwise maintained any element of control over the Glowbal Group. Control at all times has, and remains directly and indirectly, with Emad Yacoub,” the statement of claim reads.
