As president of Beedie, Ryan Beedie oversees one of the most successful industrial and residential property development companies in Canada.

Born and raised in Burnaby, he grew up watching his father, Keith Beedie, build the company from a small construction contractor into a construction innovator.

After finding success in the Metro Vancouver market, he led Beedie’s expansion into the Alberta market in 2007, with several successful developments in Calgary, Airdrie and Edmonton. In 2019, the company continued its growth across Canada with the purchase and planned development of 60-plus acres of land. Building on the success of the eastward expansion, he led the Beedie team as it brought its first development outside of Canada to market in Las Vegas last year.

In 2011, he brought Beedie back to its residential roots with the launch of Beedie Living, the company’s residential arm. Since inception, Beedie Living has brought more than 2,500 new homes to market, with an additional 5,000-plus planned. He also founded Beedie Capital, which has directly invested more than $400 million across Canada and the U.S., including investments in more than 25 B.C.-based businesses across a range of industries.

He provides the vision and ultimate approval for all major acquisitions, development projects and dispositions. He is active in the business day to day and brings his experience and expertise to bear on every aspect of the firm.

Beedie is committed to the continual growth and development of company personnel. Nearly 80% of its executive team has been promoted from within. For several years, the company has been recognized as a top employer in Canada.

Beedie has donated or committed to donate close to $100 million in the past decade alone, and in British Columbia his philanthropic endeavours are unmatched. He has chaired the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation Campaign, raising more than $100 million for a much-needed new medical and surgical centre in North Vancouver.

Perhaps his biggest influence to date is the creation of Beedie Luminaries, a social-profit enterprise that removes barriers for bright, driven students. Established in 2018 in celebration of his 50th birthday, Beedie personally committed $50 million to the unique program. Beedie Luminaries offers financial scholarships, one-to-one mentorship and summer internship opportunities to support students throughout their pursuit of higher education.

He continues to support the local community. As a long-time partner of the YWCA, Ronald McDonald House, One Girl Can and many other non-profits, he has led by example, supporting women and children in need as they look to better lives. •
