Film production increased 27.9% to $1.2 billion, up from $943.3 million worth of film and television production in 2007.

The main contributor to increased production was a doubling of value in feature film production to $525.2 million from $260.8 million. Most of the increase came from a doubling in the number of foreign feature films being produced in the province last year to 40 from 23.

The total value of TV series production fell slightly to $403.6 million from $435.1 million, even though the number of series filmed in B.C. rose to 56 from 42 in 2007.

Animation production increased 38% to $122.2 million from $88.7 million; production of TV movies and mini-series fell slightly to $155.8 million from $158.8 million.

Domestic TV production dropped to $82.8 million from a record high of $157.6 million in 2007.
