One of B.C.’s oldest construction companies, Vancouver's Dominion Construction, has been merged with Calgary-based Churchill Corp.'s (TSX:CUQ) Stuart Olson Construction as part of the $394 million acquisition of Seacliff Construction Corp. (TSX:SDC).

Seacliff Construction Corp. (TSX:SDC) subsidiary Dominion Construction is now Stuart Olson Dominion Construction Ltd., and will be led by Don Pearson, who was president and COO of Churchill subsidiary Stuart Olson Construction.

Reporting to Pearson will be a corporate team consisting of a blend of Dominion and Stuart Olson’s operational management. Stuart Olson’s Arthur Atkinson becomes vice-president of B.C. and Mauritzio Capano is now vice-president of Northern Alberta. Dominion’s Brian Barber becomes vice-president of Saskatchewan and Wade Benjaminson becomes vice-president of Manitoba.

Jim Houck, president and CEO of Churchill said, “Having strong leadership with deep experience is critical to realizing the synergies from this acquisition.”

The merger between Churchill and Seacliff creates one of the largest construction companies in Western Canada. Combined, both companies reported revenue of more than $1.2 billion in 2009 with net income of $64.9 million.

Both companies have long histories in Western Canada.

Stuart Olson was founded in 1939 and Dominion in 1911. Originally owned by the Bentall family, Dominion has been involved in many landmark buildings in Metro Vancouver, including the first four Bentall buildings, GM Place (now Rogers Arena), the Richmond Oval and Aberdeen Centre.
