CHC sheds training operations and flight simulators

Vancouver-based CHC Helicopter has sold its helicopter flight training operations, including two full-flight simulators, to Montreal’s CAE (NYSE:CAE) for an undisclosed amount.

Vancouver-based CHC Helicopter has sold its helicopter flight training operations, including two full-flight simulators, to Montreal’s CAE (NYSE:CAE) for an undisclosed amount.

“It means that we will be able to access a world-class standard of training from a world-class training organization,” CHC communications manager Andrew Huige told Business in Vancouver Monday.

“We will be able to focus on our core business as a helicopter operator and that, at the end of the day, this will improve overall quality of our training and, therefore, the safety of our operations.”

Huige said the move also provides CHC with more flexibility for training operations that require flight simulators.

Two of CHC’s flight simulators are in Norway. It also has one flight simulator in the U.K. and one in Vancouver.

CAE has a huge number of simulators spread across the globe,” Huige explained. “They always have leading edge, up-to-date training equipment. That’s their business.”

CHC is one of the world’s largest companies specializing in helicopter transportation for the offshore oil and gas industry. It operates about 270 aircraft in 30 countries.
