Delhi transit company orders 500 CNG engines from Cummins Westport

Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture between Cummins Inc. and Vancouver's Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT), has landed an order for 500 Cummins Westport compressed natural gas engines from one of India's main public transport operators.

Delhi Transport Corp. operates more than 3,000 CNG buses throughout Delhi. The engines, which will be manufactured and delivered by Cummins India Ltd., will be used in buses produced by Tata Motors, India's largest vehicle manufacturer.

The deal is the first major sale in India for the Cummins Westport B Gas International engine and will add to DTC's CNG fleet, which is one of the largest in the world.

In 2002, the Supreme Court of India ordered that all of Delhi's buses be converted to CNG to improve the city's air quality.
