Timothy Durance, founder of EnWave Corporation (TSX-V:ENW), has been recognized by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of B.C. for his company’s food dehydration innovations.
Durance has been awarded the foundation’s award of excellence for innovation in agriculture and agri-food.
“It is very gratifying to be recognized in B.C., where I’ve spent the last decade of my career developing this technology,” Durance said in a press release.
“B.C. is ideal for agricultural innovators, given the diversity of the agri-food industry. NutraREV has the potential to benefit all agri-food sectors by providing producers with an economical, high quality method to diversify their operations.”
EnWave developed NutraREV (radiant energy vacuum), a commercial-scale dehydration process that uses microwaves and vacuum pressure to dehydrate food, liquids and pharmaceuticals quickly with greater energy efficiency than other processes. EnWave also says its process retains more nutrients than traditional processes. The prototype technology was developed at the University of British Columbia.
EnWave has signed collaboration agreements with Nestlé SA, Kellogg Company, Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. and others.
