Three B.C. movie theatres getting monster screens

Cineplex theatres in Vancouver, Richmond and Langley are among the 12 across Canada that will get new auditoriums with bigger screens, bigger sound and reserved seating.

Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX) announced Thursday that it will open 12 new UltraAVX auditoriums across Canada. There are already 23 UltraAVX auditoriums in Canada.

B.C. theatres getting the new auditoriums are SilverCity Riverport Cinemas in Richmond, Scotiabank Theatre in Vancouver and Colossus Cinemas in Langley.

They feature wall-to-wall screens that are much larger than most movie screens and projectors that provide superior visuals and which are also 3D capable. The systems also feature 7.1 Dolby digital surround-sound and high-back rocker seats. Seats can be reserved, allowing moviegoers to choose ahead of time where they want to sit.

“UltraAVX has been a runaway hit with our guests,” said Pat Marshall, vice-president of communications for Cineplex Entertainment. “The combination of big picture and big sound immerses you in the onscreen action.”

Cineplex plans to have the new auditoriums open in time for summer.
