Toronto-based law firm Cassels Brock announced it is expanding its offices to Vancouver in April.
The firm said in a release that it will initially staff the new office with lawyers who already have strong ties to the Vancouver business and financial communities.
A number of local lawyers with expertise in a variety of practice areas will also be brought on board in the coming months.
Mark Young, managing partner of Cassels Brock, said “Our decision to establish a permanent presence in the Vancouver market is based on several factors, including the significant size of our existing client and contact base in the area, especially in the mining sector, and the growing number of national and international opportunities we’ve identified that will be facilitated with a western presence.
“We’ve considered expansion into other markets before but never saw a true strategic imperative to do so. But now, for us, the timing is right to make this move.”
In the early stages of the expansion, the office will be overseen by Jennifer Traub, a partner in the firm’s securities and corporate finance group and a key member of the firm’s mining industry practice.
The new office will be in the HSBC building at 885 West Georgia Street.
