Vancouver-founded studio markets movie through Groupon

Peter Wilkes, Lionsgate’s senior vice-president of investor relations, said that since the deal posted two days ago, it’s been win-win for both companies.

“We’re always looking for new cost-effective and innovative ways to reach consumers,” he said. “Groupon is one of the fastest-growing companies in the world. They’ve revolutionized digital commerce over the last couple of years.”

Wilkes said the film – a thriller, starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei and Ryan Phillippe – is a perfect match for Groupon’s key demographic.

The Lincoln Lawyer is tracking particularly well with females over the age of 25; that’s also the core demographic for Groupon,” he said.

He added, “It’s also a very good movie – we thought it would really benefit from word of mouth, and Groupon is, of course, all about word of mouth.”

The deal won’t be available in Canada, Groupon spokeswoman Julie Mossler noted, but will be available all over the U.S.
