A Victoria mechanical engineering firm is one of two companies in Canada to recently merge with Montreal’s Genivar Income Fund (TSX:GNV.UN).

The mergers included Victoria’s Hirschfield Williams Timmins Ltd. (HWT) and Montreal’s Aquapraxis Inc. The move will add 27 people to Genivar, which is one of the largest engineering services firms in Canada with more than 4,500 staff.

HWT specializes in building systems, and with its staff of 23, it has become the largest mechanical consulting office on Vancouver Island. Significant projects it recently completed include the new emergency and trauma centre at Victoria General Hospital, the new patient care centre at Royal Jubilee Hospital in downtown Victoria and a number of new facilities at the University of Victoria.

Genivar said the merger completes the income fund’s building engineering services group on the island, while the integration of Aquapraxis will add to its urban hydrology and water resource management expertise.

Mark Williams, HWT’s president, said, “Joining Genivar is a logical step and a great fit as our mechanical engineering services complement the structural and engineering services of Genivar on Vancouver Island. Furthermore, we will be better positioned to develop our services throughout B.C. and Western Canada through the Genivar network.”
