The Globe Foundation is heading an industry group that landed $216,720 in B.C. government funding on January 31 to examine the labour market needs and job potential of B.C.’s so-called “clean economy” sector.
That sector includes companies that develop sustainable technologies, energy-efficient products and green buildings.
“The project will help us to identify the specific sectors with the highest job creation potential and the policies and programs needed to realize this potential,” said Globe Foundation CEO John Wiebe.
Other partners in the industry group include the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and the Pacific Institute of Climate Solutions.
The provincial funding for the six-month Labour Market Partnerships Program project will come from the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement.
One of the main motivations is that B.C. has a large concentration of sustainable technology companies.
