PBC Solutions has deep roots in B.C.’s healthcare system.

While the stats vary from one study to the next, creating a startup can be fraught with uncertainty – to the tune of a 90-per-cent failure rate.

But one B.C. company is proudly bucking that trend.

Founded in mid-2022, PBC Solutions Ltd. (PBCS) now boasts more than 200 employees, has annual revenues of $60 million, and is committed to creating a workplace and culture that’s centered around its people.

It’s an upwards trajectory that has gained momentum such that the company was recently named among the 2025 B.C. Top Employers list.

“We were very intentional from the outset about building a culture that is focused on people and engagement and a work environment that fosters connection, collaboration and empowerment,” says Barry Rivelis, president of PBC Solutions. “Our goal is to be an employer of choice in B.C. and we’ll continue to pursue these types of recognition opportunities.”

Based in Saanichton with a satellite office in Burnaby, PBC Solutions is a leading health benefits services provider for organizations that routinely interface with healthcare practitioners – doctors, pharmacists and other practitioners – as well as everyday citizens.

As Rivelis notes, PBC Solutions’ mission is to support the transformation and innovation of health benefits services for organizations within the healthcare system or connected to it. “Our business model values innovation and we ensure our staff, clients and partners are empowered to help us drive towards the future,” adds Rivelis.

It’s a promise that’s based on assisting large payor organizations that administer and pay health-related claims to streamline, modernize and automate their systems and business processes to create efficiencies.

The deep roots in B.C.’s healthcare system cultivated by its parent company, PBC Health Benefits Society, instills a strong health overview to the company’s work.

The end result?

Cost savings and customer service enhancements through better end-user experiences.

At its core, PBCS’s dedicated Innovation Management program works to unearth and act on innovative ideas that achieve those goals. Its program delivery is rolled out in an Agile way, ensuring the company’s flexibility to continuously improve the services on behalf of all clients.

“In this way we aim to succeed in our goal to help our clients improve the health outcomes of the people they serve,” Rivelis says.

A large part of the PBCS advantage is the firm’s expertise in the Vested client relationship model, which places a unique emphasis on mutually beneficial outcomes.

“This relationship-based business model is intended to be win-win for both parties,” adds Rivelis. “Instead of ‘What’s in it for ME,’ it’s a fundamental shift in mindset to ‘What’s in it for WE’, which ensures that both parties are vested in each other’s success.”
